Humane Education Camps

With the information collected from surveys and guidance from the CDC, we have made the following changes to our summer programs in regards to Covid-19 and keeping our entire community healthy:

  • We have reduced our camp hours to mornings only. Our new camp hours will be 8:30am-12:00pm.
  • We have added new afternoon clubs for 5-11 years old that offer shorter program times from 1:00-3:00.
  • We are hiring additional staff and maintaining smaller group cohorts.
  • Please note that Heartland Farm Sanctuary will continue to follow all state and local orders. We will update our policies in accordance with any new information that we receive. You can also see the CDC Website Camp Guidelines here.

An advanced program for older campers who are interested in taking on more responsibility with our rescued residents. At Leadership Camp, we’ll explore the biological, social, and cognitive needs of farm animals while supporting the direct care of the sanctuary residents and the daily barn routine.

Campers will develop self-awareness of others, explore the inner lives and adaptations of rescued farm animals, consider their own compassionate lens on the world, and be challenged to think creatively about how they can make a difference in their communities and beyond.

If your child is 12 or will turn 12 this summer:

If your camper is 12 years old or turning 12 this summer, they may choose either Morning Leadership Camp or Morning Humane Education Camp at Heartland. Please email our Humane Education Manager, Amy, at, for assistance with this particular option since it may not be visible in our registration system, depending on your camper’s birthday.
