Incredibly curious, social and sweet
Ms. Everdeen loves chowing down on greens, napping in the sunshine and being read to!
Ms. Everdeen, Jemma, and Annie were rescued from a turkey farm by a Heartland supporter just before Thanksgiving in 2014. Shortly after they arrived at our sanctuary, they were able to partake in our annual Thanksgiving for the Turkeys event, where our rescued feathered residents are honored with a feast of their very own. Since Broad Breasted White Turkeys are bred to grow very large, very quickly, we keep the girls on a restricted diet the other 364 days of the year and make sure they get plenty of gentle, safe exercise. We have learned so much from our broad-breasted white turkey hens. Outside of sanctuary life, if they aren't slaughtered for food at 6 months of age, people believe that their legs and hearts will fail them before long, making their lives 'worthless' anyway. Sanctuaries prove this belief wrong all the time. With special diets and regular health checks, broad-breasted turkeys can live very full, rich and rewarding lives.
