Fall Camp 2019

We are offering two 5-week sessions of Fall Camp this year. Campers can sign up for one or both sessions — the curriculum will vary so each week will be a new and different experience. This is an advanced program and we recommend that campers have participated in previous HFS programs before registering. Click here to register — spots are limited!

Through the lens of Humane Education, campers will have the opportunity to take a more intimate dive into our mission of inspiring compassion for all beings. Smaller groups and more responsibility mean a more in-depth look at life at a sanctuary and more up-close and personal interactions with our rescued residents.

Campers will develop skills for self awareness and awareness of others, explore the inner lives and adaptations of rescued farm animals, consider their own compassionate lens on the world, and be challenged to think creatively about how they can make a difference in their communities.

Storytelling: Campers will learn the power of our stories, how they can help create a more compassionate world by sharing the stories of our rescued residents, and how they can play a role in writing the next chapter. *More information to come on on Open House for campers’ families where campers will get to show off their work!

Compassion: Campers will explore their own “circle of compassion” and consider how our interaction with animals and others can widen our circle. Campers will flex their empathetic muscles and learn how empathy is a skill that we must always continue to practice.

Responsibility: Campers will learn what it takes to care for 13 different species of rescued animals. Clean food and water, fresh bedding, regular med checks, and routine veterinary care are just the beginning of the steps it takes to run an animal sanctuary. Campers will develop skills for self awareness and awareness of others in caregiving for animals and understanding their needs.

Our two five-week sessions take place on Saturdays from 8:30 am – 12:30 pm.
Session I: September 14-October 12
Session II: October 19-November 16
Campers must be 12-16 years old to participate.
