Barn Time

Kids with sheep

Heartland Farm Sanctuary invites children ages 8-13 with a developmental disability to join our Barn Time program. Barn Time is a farm-based Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) program that provides youth with developmental disabilities the opportunity to experience self-efficacy, develop communication skills and enjoy the emotional benefits of the human-animal bond. Barn Time participants develop relationships with the animals and each other while participating in fun educational activities such as outdoor exploration, animal care, indoor and outdoor games and arts/crafts. All activities are appropriate for participants’ ages and abilities. This year’s session is now FULL! Please stay tuned for information on future sessions.

We at the barn have discovered firsthand how our animals lift our spirits, enhance our sense of accomplishment, and provide us with the opportunity to give back. The sheep, goats, mini-pigs, chickens, donkeys and other animals each have his or her own story of challenge and change. Our animals are healthy and well socialized and enjoy contact with people of all ages and abilities.

Heartland’s barn is located at 11713 Mid Town Road in Verona, WI.

Please note that our barn is not wheelchair accessible. Along with our social animals, our farm is home to uneven terrain. If you have any questions about whether this program is appropriate for your child, please email us at info@HeartlandFarmSanctuary.org.
