Meet Marcus, our absolutely AMAZING Volunteer of the Month! Marcus is volunteering as a camp counselor this summer, and was just promoted to staff because he’s that fantastic! Marcus is so talented at working with kids — the campers adore him! He has a great attitude and is so full of kindness. Marcus is incredibly enthusiastic at everything he does – whether he’s leading a nature walk with our two rescued donkeys, or just playing games with our campers. He also has a great sense of humor, which the campers love! Thank you, Marcus! We appreciate you so much!

1. What do you do in your time outside of Heartland? I play games of all varieties and I am a student of UW-Madison going for EMA (Engineering Mechanics and Astronautics).

2. How did you find out about Heartland? What got you interested? My mom (Tera) introduced me to Heartland and the animals. I fell into it, helping as much as I could.

3. Can you describe a favorite/memorable moment or event at HFS? For me, what comes to mind is just seeing the animals like the BIG pigs. They are so huge!

4. What is your favorite part about volunteering for HFS? Making the pigs happy with enrichment is my favorite part of volunteering.

5. What do you wish other people knew about Heartland? I wish that more people knew that more good is happening in the world.

6. If you could adopt only one HFS animal, who would you pick and why? I can’t pick one. My house is filled with pigs thanks to my mom. (And two of those pigs are pictured – remember former Heartland residents Wilbur and Harvey?!) 🙂
