Meet Hannah, our August Volunteer of the Month! Hannah is a former (and longtime) summer camper at Heartland and is currently volunteering as an assistant counselor at summer camp. Hannah is volunteering nine of the total 11 weeks of camp – she is a trooper and is doing such an amazing job. Hannah is a huge help with the t-shirt tie dye project that happens every week, and also helps manage the farmer’s market that happens every day at the end of camp. Thank you so much for all you do for us, Hannah!

1. What do you do in your time outside of Heartland? I love spending time with friends, reading, and listening to music.

2. How did you find out about Heartland? What got you interested? I found out about Heartland from a friend who had gone and wanted me to check it out. I actually wasn’t sure if I should go, but my friend talked me into it by talking about all of the animals. I specifically remember her telling me Winnie’s story, and after that, I had to check it out!

3. Can you describe a favorite/memorable moment or event at HFS? I remember one week of camp, a project we did was making videos starring the animals. It was really fun! I got to work with my friends, be creative, and spend time with animals all in one! It was an amazing week, and watching everyone’s videos at the end was super cool.

4. What is your favorite part about volunteering for HFS? I love getting to spend time with the animals and getting to know them. Knowing an animal feels safe and happy around you is such an amazing feeling!

5. What do you wish other people knew about Heartland? I wish people knew who much Heartland means to the people who go there. It makes such a difference in the lives of the animals, but people don’t realize how much of an impact Heartland Farm Sanctuary makes on the lives of the people who go there.

6. If you could adopt only one HFS animal, who would you pick and why? Probably Maybelle, because I love her so much and getting to take her home with me would be so fun. She’s just the sweetest and I would be able to give her belly rubs all the time!
