Dr. Jody volunteers weekly at the Heartland barn, treating our animals that need chronic or acute treatment with acupuncture, laser acupuncture, veterinary spinal manipulation and homeopathy. She’s a big believer in Heartland’s mission, and we are so lucky to have her — our animals benefit tremendously from her donated services!
1. How did you find out about Heartland? I found out about Dr. JodyHeartland from Stephanie Weis, who was my client before I moved to Hawaii, and she told me as soon as I moved back.
2. Why do you choose to volunteer at Heartland?  I volunteer at Heartland because I love the animals and the humans and the love between them and the mission. When I moved back to Wisconsin from Hawaii I felt aloha here and had to keep coming back for more. Plus I couldn’t make it very long without my Amy, Zeus, Lily, Esme, etc. fix!
3. What do you wish other people knew about Heartland?  I wish everyone knew that the animals need a warmer barn. It is especially hard on the birds and older animals in the winter to be on a cement floor with no heat and lots of drafts. Also that the people who are involved are about the kindest people you’ll ever meet, and that hanging out with the animals will make anyone feel good.
4. What would you tell someone who is thinking about donating to Heartland or volunteering at the farm? The animals need you! They need food, better shelter, diagnostic tests at times, specific homeopathic and herbal and western medicines, Rescue Remedy for pets, lots of specific materials and help with their care. There is always so much to do, and you will be happy you did!
